Steve Bell to give free talk

Political cartoonist Steve Bell will give a talk in Dundee as part of the Saturday Evening Lecture series at the University of Dundee.

Renowned for his biting satirical drawings of every politician from Tony Blair to Vladimir Putin, Steve will talk on ‘Do Politicians Look Funny?’ at the D’arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre. The lecture is free and open to all.

Steve says, "I tend to draw Tony Blair with his mad left eye which keeps glinting and moving about all over the place. George Bush is easy to do because he’s so ludicrous, he just looks like a chimp."

"When it comes to Brown I tend to focus on his massiveness."

Steve Bell started as a freelance artist before getting a job on the Guardian in 1981 - but, he says, "I still have my rejection letter from the Beano!" His daily strip, If, has run ever since and in the mid 1990’s he became the newspapers’ principal cartoonist.

Steve says, "People regard it as kids stuff which is a shame. I get to do stuff that wouldn’t be allowed anywhere else, you can certainly be pretty radical."

"Do Politicians Look Funny?" is on Saturday 28th April, in the University of Dundee’s D’arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre. The lecture is free and open to all.

The talk begins at 6pm.
