New facility opens Dundee Teaching Excellence to Scottish students

A new facility that opens tomorrow (FRI) at the University of Dundee will allow students across Scotland to share teaching excellence.

Ian Halliday, CEO of the Scottish University Physics Alliance (SUPA), will unveil the grid room which allows students to participate in lectures taking place in other higher education facilities. It will also allow lectures at the University of Dundee to be delivered to other universities.

The room is packed with high specification audio visual equipment including cameras, sound equipment projectors and LCD screens.

The grid room is a step towards the University of Dundee contributing to SUPA with the aim of putting Scotland at the top of the international stage for education and research in physics.

Professor Merv Rose, Head of Electronic Engineering & Physics , says "The grid room will be used by postgraduate students and will allow students and professional physicists in Scotland - and the wider field - to access our expertise in materials, opto-electronics & photonics and physics for medicine and biology."

NOTE TO EDITORS:

The opening of the room will take place on Friday at 1:45pm. Photographs and quotes will be available later that day.
