Dundee Masters Show 2006

PRESS NOTE: Preview will take place tonight, Friday, from 7pm to 9pm with a bus running between the two sites.

There is a truly international flavour to the Dundee Masters Show 2006, which will include students from China to Mexico.

The Masters show, which opens tomorrow, is the annual display of work by more than 30 students from courses run by the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. They include the Master of Sciences Electronic Imaging, Master of Design, Master of Sciences Animation and Visualisation and Master of Fine Art.

The exhibition will take place in two centres - Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and, unusually, Kangaroo Self Storage, 52 - 54 East Dock Street, which has provided 10,000 sq foot of space for the artists to show their work.

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design’s postgraduate programme is one of the most innovative and exciting in the UK. The Graduate Centre established in 2005 is designed around the strong research ethos and brings together taught postgraduate programmes in a creative and flexible environment. Programmes can be undertaken either as preparation for further academic research to doctorate, or to focus on developing high-level skills and competencies for professional practice.

The Faculty's research mission is simple: to create a national and international centre of excellence in research and practice that is innovative, integrated, relevant and distinctive.

Elaine Shemilt, Head of Graduate Centre says " This 2006 Dundee Masters Show extends the boundaries, giving generous physical and mental space to adventurous new artists and ideas. In the Kangaroo space multimedia, interactive and time based installations take their place next to strong works in traditional media. Some of the most innovative and progressive ideas for contemporary design can be seen in Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art."

Chris Stevens, Managing Director of Kangaroo Self Storage said, "Kangaroo Self Storage is delighted to be showing part of the Dundee Masters Show 2006. As I company, we believe in working with other sectors within Tayside in the development of charitable, community and artistic events."
