Dundee law students honoured
LAW SCHOOL PRIZEGIVING - 1.30 PM, WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH,
BAXTER CONFERENCE SUITE, TOWER BUILDING
UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE
The School of Law at the University of Dundee holds its annual prizegiving on Wednesday September 27th, with students from as far afield as California and Montreal among those being honoured for their achievements.
This is the first year in which Law has had its own dedicated prizegiving ceremony - the School of Law has been created through the recent academic restructuring of the University. Previously it was part of the Faculty of Law and Accountancy.
Professor Alan Page, Dean of the School of Law, said it was vital the School established its new identity, and congratulated the students whose success he said would be key to the overall performance of the whole School.
"First of all I have to congratulate the students who have done so much good work and are being rightly recognised for their achievements," said Professor Page.
"In the new School of Law we are seeking to combine the best of the new with the best of the old."
"The former Faculty of Law and Accountancy had established a tradition that was to be applauded of publicly acknowledging the achievements of its best students. Teaching students has always been at the heart of what we do and it iss through their achievements as well as the dedication and hard work of those that teach them that the reputation of the School will be secured."
The prizegiving takes place in the Baxter Conference Suite in the University tower building at 1.30 pm on Wednesday September 27th.

LAW PRIZE IN HONOUR OF SHENAZ KAPOOR
The School of Law at the University of Dundee is to institute an annual prize in honour of Shenaz Kapoor, the student who tragically died while on a trip to Thailand in August.
Professor Alan Page, Dean of the School of Law, announced the new prize to staff and students at the School’s annual prizegiving ceremony this week.
"As some of you know one of our students, Shenaz Kapoor, was tragically drowned in Thailand in August," Professor Page said.
"Shenaz was a remarkable young woman. Gifted, hardworking, reflective and dedicated to helping others - at the time of her death she had just finished helping victims of the Tsunami."
"In the time she was with us Shenaz made a tremendous contribution to the life of the School - not least through her involvement in mooting and negotiations."
"I am therefore proposing that we remember her by instituting a prize for the best student in the fourth year of the Law with Languages degree. Had she lived Shenaz would have been embarking on her final year now, and I have no doubt that she would have graced it by her achievements."
The prize will be awarded from next year.
