Indian student beats thousands to study at Dundee
Indian student Aishwarya Tipnis beat thousands of other applicants to be awarded a scholarship to study at Dundee.
The talented 26-year-old has come to the city for a year to complete a course in European Urban Conservation that is funded by the British Council.
The scholarship will pay for Aishwarya’s tuition fees, return air fares and a living allowance and so is hotly contested by students who are keen to study in Scotland.
Aishwarya, who is from Mumbai, had to submit a huge folder detailing her past education and the work she had been doing since leaving university in order to be awarded the scholarship.
Aishwarya says, "I chose the Dundee course as it has a really strong practical and professional angle, where as the other courses I looked at seemed to be mainly academic."
"I plan to go back to India after the course and put what I have learned into practise. There is lots of development taking place in India right now and if the old buildings are not conserved and renewed, there will be nothing historic left."
Aishwarya has only been in Dundee for a few days, but already feels at home in the city. "I think its wonderful here - the people are so friendly and it is a beautiful place."
