Don't Look Now - the quiet revolution in biomedical science

Dow Lecture 2006 - Friday October 6th, 6 pm.

Professor Sir Nicholas Wright will examine the role that advanced imaging techniques have played in the major biomedical developments of the past 20 years when he delivers the 2006 Dow Lecture at the University of Dundee on Friday October 6th.

Biomedical advances over the past two decades have depended crucially on the ability to visualise genes and gene products in their natural environment - the tissues. Modern developmental and cell biology would not be possible without the advances in imaging of both living and dead tissues.

In his lecture, titled "Don't Look Now - the quiet revolution in biomedical science", Professor Sir Nicholas Wright will explore the importance of the advances in imaging science and their huge contribution to our understanding of biological processes in health and disease.

Professor Sir Nicholas Wright is the Head of the Histopathology Unit at the London Research Institute, Cancer Research UK, where he researches stem cells and colon cancer. He has been President of the British Society for Gastroenterology and is currently President of the Royal Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

The lecture takes place in the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, University of Dundee, at 6 pm on Friday October 6th and is followed by a drinks reception. Entry is free and all are welcome.
