Student debate in memory of Shenaz Kapoor
Students from the University of Dundee will gather tomorrow evening (WEDS) for a debate in memory of Shenaz Kapoor.
Shenaz, a student in the School of Law, died in Thailand in August whilst undertaking charity work for victims of the Tsunami. Her friends and contemporaries are running the event both to celebrate her life and to raise funds for the Charity she was working for whilst in Thailand, Islamic Relief.
Lecturers and students will speak about their memories of Shenaz in front of an audience containing members of her family. Students will then have a light hearted debate about adopting children from abroad. There will be a raffle and snacks, with all proceeds from the event going to Islamic Relief. The event has been organised entirely by friends and lecturers from the Law department.
Alison Blair, a friend of Shenaz who is also a Law student at the University of Dundee said, "We wanted to do an event in memory of Shenaz that also gave something back to charity. Shenaz was such a caring person; we felt she would have liked this. She really made a difference. We chose the subject because she was in Thailand helping orphans, so it seemed appropriate."
The event takes place at 6.30pm on Wednesday (22 November) in Room 1.36 of the Baxter Suite in the Tower Building.
