Money to help support bagpipe playing in Dundee schools will be presented to teenage piper Fiona Lynn on Thursday May 25 by Dr Ian Scragg, head of safety services at the University of Dundee.
The money was raised after Fiona, a sixth year pupil at Menzieshill High School, agreed to play her pipes at a gala dinner held as part of the Universities Safety and Health Association annual conference in Dundee.
Instead of accepting a fee Fiona told Dr Scragg, who organised the conference on behalf of the University of Dundee, she would prefer a donation to help support the teaching of bagpipes in the city’s schools.
"I was so impressed by Fiona’s enthusiasm and commitment to bagpipe playing in Dundee schools that I organised a raffle at the conference to raise as much money as possible," said Dr Scragg.
A total of £351 was collected, which will go towards a fund being raised by bagpipe teacher and pipe major Ian Duncan to buy a laptop and bagpipe specific software for young pipers at Dundee schools.
