LOVE & WAR - THE TRUNK
An exhibition by Jane Milroy of the Tayside Building Preservation Trust (based in the University’s School of Town & Regional Planning)
Photo opportunity: 5.30 pm, Thursday March 16th,
Tower Foyer Gallery,
University of Dundee.
Jane and her family will be endowing an annual prize for engineering students in memory of her father. Professor Michael Davies, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, will accept the endowment from the family.
Information from Jane Milroy:
This trunk has lain undisturbed since my father John Wylie’s sudden death in 1965. When my mother Sally died in 1995 I inherited the trunk and its contents.
Hearing that the University was to be marking the 125th anniversary of University College Dundee prompted me to open the trunk knowing my father had been a student of engineering here in the 1930s.
The ‘trunk’ led me on a rather remarkable and hugely sentimental journey where I discovered a wealth of material about my father’s childhood, as a student, in war, the love letters he wrote to Sally and documentation on his close family.
The exhibition represents just a small sample of the enormous amount of information found in the trunk.
