It is generally accepted that you need brains to earn a degree, but never more so than for the first group of students to graduate from one of the new courses at the University of Dundee.

The morning graduation ceremony on Friday June 23rd sees degrees awarded to the first seven students to complete the BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience.

"This is a landmark event for neuroscience in Dundee," said Professor Michael Coughtrie, head of the Division of Pathology and Neuroscience.

"We have very significant research strengths in neuroscience and now we are complementing those with this development on the teaching side, which gives us a complete package."

The BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience is delivered through the Faculty of Life Sciences although the final year is based entirely in the Division of Pathology and Neuroscience in the University Medical School at Ninewells.

"This is an excellent example of different faculties in the University working together to deliver a first-class programme for our students," said Dr Martyn Ward, of the Life Sciences Teaching Unit.

"The students on this course have benefitted from being taught in what is a very strong research environment."

The graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Life Sciences takes place in the Caird Hall in Dundee at 10 am on Friday June 23rd.
