World comes to Dundee for graduation
Graduation at the University of Dundee today will have a strong international flavour with successful students from as far afield as North America and Africa coming to the city, some of them for the first time.
Among those passing through today’s graduation ceremonies for the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry are students who have successfully completed some of the programmes offered by the University’s Distance Learning Centre for Nursing and Palliative Care.
Students on the distance learning courses can carry out their entire studies in their home country, but are heartily welcomed to come and enjoy their graduation in Dundee.
Lyn Goldring, studying from the United States, will be joined by eleven of her family, some of whom have come from America to see her graduate in Dundee. There are also graduates from Canada and Kenya attending today’s ceremonies.
"It is an absolutely wonderful for us to welcome our graduates to Dundee," said Doctor Elizabeth Rogerson, head of the Distance Learning Centre (Nursing and Palliative Care). "We work with students from all over the world, and it is a privilege and a delight for us to have the opportunity to bring students from around the world back to Dundee for graduation."
The Distance Learning Centre (Nursing and Palliative Care) is the only Centre outwith the United States to be accredited by the two main USA nursing education accrediting organisations. The cultural diversity within the international programme is reflected in the range of countries of its 2006 graduates, with 41 students from a range of countries spanning the USA and Africa.
