School of Humanities offer new flexible programme

The School of Humanities is expanding its opportunities for evening study with a new programme of flexible postgraduate courses due to begin this autumn.

Students will be able to study full-time for one year or part-time over two years for one of 14 degrees at Diploma and Masters level.

The Diploma and MLitt. degrees include English Studies, History, Twentieth Century Studies, Philosophy & Literature, European Politics, Continental Philosophy, and Women, Culture and Society.

An MLitt in Humanities will also offer students the opportunity to take virtually any combination of classes in an interdisciplinary mix.

A total of 36 modules will be available across the degrees with students taking core classes in Theory in the Humanities, Generic Skills and subject-based skills and two other major modules.

Progression to the Masters degree then brings a research dissertation with one-to-one supervision in the subject of the student's choice.

"The programme is very flexible and is aimed at students of all ages and backgrounds," said Director of Postgraduate Study, Professor Callum Brown.

"It is ideal for recent graduates looking to the next career step, and professional people who want to upgrade and update their qualification. It is also ideal for those with a degree in one subject who want to learn anew in another. For those who are retired, or who work part-time, they can study out of general educational interest."

Students interested in applying for the new programme should have an upper second honours degree or higher.
