MAP move in!
MAP, an award-winning international contemporary art magazine, has taken up a two-year residency within Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
The move makes Duncan of Jordanstone the first Scottish Higher education art institution to host a contemporary art publication.
MAP aims to stimulate debate and discussion on the subject of contemporary visual art and to focus on the ideas influencing current practice in Scotland and internationally. It is dedicated to engaging with artists at all stages of their careers and to commissioning new works within the magazine itself and on its website.
The latest issue includes articles on School of Fine Art tutor and artist Torsten Lauschmann, Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal and the 5th Berlin biennial as well as commissions by Craig Mulholland and novelist and artist Alasdair Gray.
Operating as an independent publication, MAP is under the direction of editor Alice Bain, co-editor Steven Cairns (a DJCAD Master of Fine Art graduate), publishing manager Georgina Le Breuilly and editor-at-large Isla Leaver-Yap.
The magazine's editorial advisory board also includes Professor Tracy Mackenna, Head of the School of Fine Art and Jenny Brownrigg, curator of the exhibitions department.
"The School of Fine Art and Exhibitions Department are delighted to welcome the MAP team to a new office on campus," said Professor Mackenna. "Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design are the first Scottish higher education art institution to host an art magazine. It also marks our continued commitment to contemporary art writing, building on the college's past associations with art journal 'transcript' founded by Alan Woods. We look forward with real pleasure to working with MAP."
To celebrate the arrival of the magazine in Dundee the new issue is being offered free to all students at DJCAD.
