The University has signed a Service Level Agreement with the Ministry of Health in Eritrea to deliver Continuing Professional Development programme to senior health care managers in the country.

The BA Professional Development in Managing Integrated Services provided by the University is being coordinated by the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education. This is in collaboration with Distance Learning Centre who are delivering the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) programme.

The BA Professional Development currently has just under 200 students enrolled on it, including 16 in Eritrea who started work on the programme in October last year following a visit by the programme leader, Dr Divya Jindal-Snape. This was followed by a second visit by Mr Ian Ball and Dr Gaye Manwaring from BA Professional Development and Ms Lorna Numbers from BN in March this year.

All of the participants on the course are professionals keen to advance their own professional development.

Dr Jindal-Snape said, "The participants on the programme are usually professionally at a very senior level but due to various reasons might not have obtained full academic qualifications. For example, the Eritrean cohort are all senior managers in health care with the Ministry of Health in Eritrea. They couldn't complete their studies due to the war."

This Eritrean agreement is for two years initially with the possibility of continuing beyond that.
