A Dundee Celebration
In 2007, the University of Dundee will celebrate its 40th anniversary as a fully independent University.
Since becoming independent in 1947, the University has quadrupled in size and its reputation has soared. Throughout this period of growth and success the city of Dundee and its people have been the University's staunchest supporters.
In recognition of our achievements and the support of the city, the University has decided to hold a very special anniversary celebration over two days. On 8th February, Professor David Swinfen and Ken Baxter will launch their celebration of the life of the University of Dundee with a public debate on the growth and impact of Scottish higher education in Scotland.
On the following day, February 9th, at 4pm an honorary degree ceremony will take place in the Caird Hall. This ceremony will honour key individuals who have played a significant role in raising the reputation of either the University or the city of Dundee.
The ceremony will focus on achievements across three themes: Excellence in Dundee; Excellence in academia; and Excellence in sporting and cultural achievements.
We look forward to welcoming you all to the Caird Hall at 4pm for an honorary degree ceremony with a difference and afterwards to a special anniversary drinks reception in the Marryat Hall.
Further details on the ceremony and other anniversary plans will be announced in early 2007.
