First year students put their artworks on show
African heads, aspects of the urban environment and sequential images were the themes of an exhibition displaying the creations of more than 180 first year students from Fine Arts, Design, and Television and Imaging.
Now a successful annual event, this year's General Course Showcase was a celebration of creativity and diversity, with evocative work that challenged both students and audience.
The students exhibited their work as they embark on their chosen speciality at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
The students were asked to create an artwork according to one of three briefs. The Design students' project was called 'African Heads' required students to create headwear using only recycled material and to push the range of materials they use to the limits.
The Fine Arts students' project was 'Aspects of the Urban Environment'. This challenged students to experiment with media and process that would express their relationship to an urban space.
The Television & Imaging project, entitled 'Sequential Images', encouraged team-working to develop students' observations into a variety of outcomes presented by screen, projection, installation, performance or static artwork.
The Showcase also included a display of self-portraits by the students.
