Tackling gender equality in the workplace
A new Gender Equality Network (GEN) sub-committee has been set up in order to ensure the University does everything it can to end discrimination based on gender.
GEN was established in light of recent legislation for a positive framework for gender equality and reports to the Equality and Diversity Working Group of the Human Resources Committee of Court.
The committee meets three or four times a year. On the agenda so far have been issues relating to an equality audit of the University, how to fund initiatives such as one which could support visiting female professors, and the knock-on effect on student recruitment of lack of staff role models within subjects such as engineering and nursing.
GEN also has a remit to disseminate information concerning best practise within the higher education sector, other external initiatives such as the creation of the UK-wide Resource Centre for Women and SET and the recent Scottish Centre based at Napier, and funding possibilities for projects with the University.
GEN welcomes input from University staff and students on how best to disseminate gender equality information to the wider community. Anyone with gender equality items for discussion should contact Rosa Michaelson on r.michaelson@dundee.ac.uk.
