Prizes for Arts and Social Science high fliers
Top performers from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences were awarded with prize cheques by
Faculty Dean Chris Whatley at the annual Armistead Bursary Awards ceremony.
The Armistead Bursary Awards recognise arts and social science students who have come top in a
semester one subject.
Chris also presented the second instalment of the Byers Scholarship to first year students Emma
Moore and John Thow. They are the first recipients of this new scholarship, which will be made
annually to two local students who have shown commitment to academic study throughout their school
career, have achieved an unconditional offer to study in the faculty, and who have received a
positive recommendation from their school.
Chris said, "The Byers Scholarships are a new departure for us, which link us more closely with
the local schools. They are awarded not solely on the basis of academic excellence but others
factors; particularly difficult hurdles the awardees have had to overcome are key considerations.
Our two winners this year are splendid examples of what the Scholarships set out to reward."
