Mach unveils ideas for campus artwork
David Mach, Visiting Professor of Inspiration and Discovery, has unveiled his preliminary ideas
for a public artwork that could be installed on the redeveloped campus. Mach's sketches were on
display at the latest Inspiration and Discovery event, entitled Creativity - the sole domain of
the artist?
The event invited 40 key figures involved in life sciences and the arts to participate in
discussion forums, find out about the work being carried out by their colleagues and network with
potential collaborative partners. Speakers included Mach, DJCAD’s Elain Shemilt - who has just
been appointed Personal Chair in Fine Art Printmaking - and Director of Dundee Contemporary Arts
Clive Gillman, who shared his experience and vision for art meets science collaborations.
An Inspiration and Discovery website with the capacity to act as a virtual forum was also
launched. The website provides a focal point for everyone involved in the project, and an
information source for other interested parties.
