Inaugural DJCAD alumni event
Current DJCAD students were given an insight into life after art school at Duncan of
Jordanstone's inaugural alumni event. From award winning animation to world class buildings, 12
graduates returned to the University to talk about their wide ranging careers.
Around 100 students and staff came along to the event, which was held in the Tower Extension
Lecture Theatre, and chaired by Professor Gary Fisher. The short presentations followed the
successful Discovery Day format.
Gary explained, "The purpose of the event was to allow students to hear first hand how alumni
had built their successful careers. The presentations from architects, designers, fine artists and
television specialists were deliberately interspersed to emphasise the levels of inter and multi
disciplinarity in all creative subjects. Students heard how individuals had developed businesses,
become part of large cultural industries and become world class practitioners from their University
of Dundee origins."
"These graduates illustrate how the art and design college can be a springboard into a huge
range of exciting careers," Gary added, "I think the presentations inspired our current students
to think about the direction they want to go in when they graduate, and to aim high."
