Travel award for diabetes research
A prestigious Tenovus award has been made to Dr Alison Kirk of the Institute of Sport and
Exercise for her "outstanding contribution" to scientific research in Scotland. Alison's research
is focused on how exercise can help diabetes sufferers.
Alison received the Sir Robin MacLellan Travel Award which is made annually to a researcher who has
carried out their work in Scotland. She will be using her £1,000 award to attend the American
College of Sports Medicine annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where she will present a
paper.
Classes for local diabetes sufferers have been set up by Alison at the ISE, and were featured in
the recent programme about the University’s contribution to diabetes research, presented by Brian
Cox.
