Masters students design G8 project
Work by Masters of Design students will be used to encourage police officers to share
information about public order, terrorism, community and crime in the run up to the G8 Summit that
will take place at Gleneagles in July. The group of five students have designed posters that will
be displayed in police stations throughout the UK.
The project is part of an internal communications initiative to encourage police officers to share
their local knowledge. It is the second collaborative project to take place between the Master of
Design programme and Tayside Police this academic year, and came about as a result of the
successful 'Design Against Crime' project last October.
Chief Constable John Vine and Detective Chief Inspector Roddy Ross initiated the project, which was
led by Louise Valentine, Acting MDes Course Director, with input from Inspector Iain Wales and
Sergeant Adrian Robertson.
Having been presented to Chief Constable Vine, as well as a group of national chief constables and
media consultants, the posters have been approved for distribution across the UK.
The campaign will be launched by the 'orange grenade' poster (left) which will be sent out to
police stations across the country. A new poster will be sent out to each of the UK’s 70 forces
every two weeks between May and the G8 event in July.
