Postgraduate centre for DJCAD
Breaking down barriers between disciplines and encouraging a more creative and flexible
environment - that was the thinking behind the creation of the newly opened postgraduate centre at
DJCAD. Around £200,000 has been invested in the centre, which provides studio space and new
computers for all DJCAD postgraduate students.
Elaine Shemilt, Faculty Coordinator for Taught Masters was responsible for setting up the Graduate
Centre. She explained, "Some students at postgraduate level have work which is discipline
specific, and others have work which is interdisciplinary in character. The previous postgraduate
provision within the faculty was from separate schools with little culture of collaboration or
connectivity. The new centre will improve and enrich the student experience by encouraging
interaction between the disciplines."
DJCAD's taught masters programmes are designed to prepare the student for either a commercial
career within the creative arts, or to continue their research to doctorate and post-doctorate
level.
In September a new interdisciplinary programme will be launched. The MSc or M.Des in Regeneration,
Conservation and Sustainable Design is a collaborative venture between the Schools of
Architecture and Town and Regional Planning.
