Commission for 'Kebab Kingdom'
Ink Animations, the University start-up company located at the incubator offices in Springfield, has been
commissioned by the Comedy Unit to create a new BBC cartoon.
Gili Dolev, a DJCAD graduate and Head of Development at the award-winning company, will be producing,
directing and co-writing the 'South Park-style' cartoon, entitled: Kebab Kingdom: life in a kebab shop in the
badlands of Fife.
According to Gili, the kebab shop represents a microcosm of Scottish life and reflects his own experiences:
"I came here from Israel to study five years ago, and my wife and I supported ourselves by working in a kebab
shop.
There we found the extremes of Scottish life, in long and ridiculously low-paid shifts. It is an incredible
situation, taking in everyone from the customers who come in during the early evening to the drunken punters
stumbling home at night.
On a serious note, it shows up some of the racism in Scottish society, but it also highlights the fantastic
diet. The first thing that everyone would do was to get rid of the salad in their kebabs. But the shop in
this animation is a wonderful melting pot of life."
The six-part mini-series, will be shown on BBC Scotland's Karen Dunbar Show in February.
