Energy accreditation
At a time when concerns about the environment and climate change are high, the University has proved its
'green' credentials by being granted accreditation by the National Energy Foundation (the benchmark standard
in energy efficiency) in recognition of achievements in the management of energy - making us one of only nine
universities nationally to have attained accreditation status.
The assessment highlighted achievements in areas such as management commitment and investment and energy
improvements over a number of years. The three MegaWatt combined heat and power installation, which has
provided the campus with electricity and heat over the last seven years, was considered a major factor in
gaining the award.
The assessor for the scheme, Harry Waugh, is an Energy Manager with Scottish Healthcare Supplies (SHS). Mr
Waugh said, "Achieving this accreditation is by no means a formality as there is a rigorous examination of
policies and procedures in place. The organisations should be congratulated for achieving the required
standards".
