New control room operational
by Richard Borrer
The new Control Room at Tower Reception is now operational, after undergoing a radical upgrade to provide
a new CCTV room, an improved radio system and a controlled entry system to the Tower Building.
Vital to the technological improvements has been increased staffing to enable the provision of a round the
clock service seven days a week. In addition to dealing with all routine telephone calls and personal
callers between 5pm and 8am daily and from Friday evening to Monday morning, the Control Room now handles all
emergency calls between these times and can call on mobile patrols to attend at incidents.
Phase two of the University CCTV system will shortly be completed and with 19 cameras covering the campus and
providing good quality digital images, the safety and security of everyone will be enhanced.
Control room staff are equipped with up-to-date information and have been trained in emergency response
procedures. All emergencies and suspicious incidents should be reported immediately on 4141.
