New scholarship for top students
A new award has been established to reward students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The Byers Scholarship is offered to entrant students from the Parish of Mains and Strathmartine. Two
annual awards of £1,000 are made available to students who have shown commitment to academic study
throughout their school career, have achieved an unconditional offer to study in the faculty, and who
have received a positive recommendation from their school.
Emma Moore, a first year Psychology student from St Saviour's High School and John Thow, a first year
International Relations student from St John’s High School, were the first recipients of the award and
were presented with their cheques by Dean of the Faculty Chris Whatley.
He said, "The provision of the Byers Scholarships has allowed us to forge closer links with two of the
local schools. This is important for us as a Faculty. It is also great that the first of the scholarships
have been awarded to two highly-talented, hard-working young people from Dundee. We welcome students of
this calibre and hope to see many more in future".
