Music update
by Graeme Stevenson
The full programme of musical events from the first semester have proven that there is a thriving
music scene on and around campus.
In the New Year, the University Choir start rehearsals for the largest piece they have attempted for a
number of years: Karl Jenkins' Mass for Peace. The orchestra will be playing Beethoven 1, the Big Band
will be busy gigging and the lunchtime groups all have lunchtime concerts and other performances to
prepare for. Although numbers of attendees are good, new string players and male singers are always
particularly welcome.
Music Co-ordinator Graeme Stevenson said, "The New Year promises to be exciting so please come along and
join us or support us at the concerts."
After a promotional stunt by four Beatle impersonators from the music society, this year's Christmas
concert, the Beatlecracker suite, has just taken place. Arranged by Arthur Wilkinson, the piece weaves
some of the Beatles favourite themes into the traditional Nutcracker suite.
