Reader to launch lecture series
The launch of the 2005 Saturday Evening Lecture Series will take place on 8 January, with a timely and
unique collaboration between the acclaimed performer of the work of Robert Burns, Eddi Reader, and world
renowned Burns expert Professor Ken Simpson, of the University of Strathclyde.
The Events Office has been working closely with Dundee Rep theatre to create 'The voices of Robert Burns'
- an evening worthy of both the Bard and Scotland's oldest lecture series, now entering its ninth decade.
Reader, who gave a historic performance at the opening of Scotland's parliament, recently released an
acclaimed recording of Burns' songs. Simpson’s passion for Burns' work has marked a distinguished
academic career, which has taken him across the UK and America. Together they will explore the 'voices of
Robert Burns': with a performance and analysis that will bring a whole new means of interpretation to a
poet and songsmith of enduring importance.
Tickets cost £12.50 and are available from the Rep box office on (01382) 223530. Or book online at
