New international appeal
A new international fundraising campaign has been officially launched on the University web site.
Named the Cairn of Hope International Appeal, it is part of the fundraising campaign for the new Centre
for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR). And with the 'online giving' facility now live on the web, it is
hoped that donations for the appeal will come in from all over the world.
Each donation to the CIR appeal will be represented by a 'stone' in the Cairn of Hope, with the name of
all donors recorded on special plaques at its base. The Cairn has been designed by Gordon Keir of Design
Services, and will be displayed in the entrance to the CIR.
Deidra Baker, Major Gifts Officer, explained, "As the research focus of the CIR will be upon two of
today's most challenging medical problems, diabetes and tropical diseases, the title 'Cairn of Hope'
symbolises the hope that the CIR will bring to the millions of people in the world who are affected by
these diseases."
The 'online giving' facility is a new development which enables anyone, from anywhere in the world, to
donate to a University campaign via the web site.
