Wireless!
An innovative project that will provide students with wireless Internet connections from laptops anywhere
on campus was recently launched - making the University a leader in student technology.
The pilot project has started in the main library and will run until Easter. If successful, the technology
will be implemented across the whole University over the next few years, allowing students to log in to their
computers and their assignments from anywhere on campus.
Deputy Principal Geoff Ward launched the project with Richard Murphy, Director of IT Services, John Bagnall,
Librarian and Vinesh Chandra, Project Leader of the wireless networking pilot.
Vinesh said, "I am very pleased that the students are now able to use the technology. It solves the problem
of students having to queue up in IT suites to use a computer. It has been running very smoothly with hardly
any problems and the feedback has been great from all users."
