A DJCAD student is appealing for help in her ambitious attempt to fit the whole world into one small room.
Vikki Baird, who is in her final year of the fine art course hopes to collect photos from every one of the world’s 192 countries in order to create a photographic map of the world. She will then cover the floor, walls and ceiling of a room in the art college with the images, taking visitors on an extraordinary visual journey across the continents.
Thanks to public support, Vikki has so far collected around 800 photographs but needs many more. She is asking anyone who has unwanted snaps or picture postcards to donate them to the 'Map of the World' project, which Vikki hopes will be completed in February. The map will also form part of her final degree show in June.
Vikki, 21, from Falkirk, said, "Photography is the focus of much of my work because I feel it has more immediacy than painting.
"I have had quite a good response to the project so far but there are still many countries that are missing. Surprisingly, I haven’t received many photos of Australia and am also still looking for more from Russia, South America and China. However, I will gratefully accept photos of any locations around the globe - the more I have, the more comprehensive the map will be."
