E-books

The library has started a trial of the ebrary electronic books collection of more than 13,000 titles from over 130 publishers. The main subjects are business and economics, computers and technology, education, humanities and social sciences.

E-books offer a number of advantages; they don’t go missing, take up space on shelves, or get damaged.

Multiple readers can simultaneously access the ebrary collection, on or off-campus, so entire classes of students can access the same chapter from a book at the same time. Distance learners will be able to access the collection remotely, and electronic access to books will alleviate problems faced by disabled users. Full-text searching can be done across the entire database of books, or within a single book, to aid research and reference.

The library would like to assess the value of the collection. An evaluation form is available on the library web page and should be sent or emailed to Christine Backler in the main library c.backler@dundee.ac.uk by end of February.

The searchable full-text database of books is available on the library web pages at: www.dundee.ac.uk/library
