Spiros Galinos, a final year honours student in the professionally accredited Environmental Management programme delivered by the School of Town and Regional Planning, has won the first ecos Book Prize prize. The prize is awarded for excellence in business and the environment.
Spiros, from Lesvos in Greece, was delighted to receive the award, particularly in light of his initial struggles with the English language. His English has improved to such an extent that he is not only expected to achieve a good degree but also to qualify on graduation as an Associate of The Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment.
Spiros said, "There is a large and growing demand for professionals in environmental management to implement European Union Directives on cleaning up the environment. My professional degree programme will equip me with the skills to obtain a good job in this area".
Spiros received his award from Scott Brady, Managing Director of ecos, a Dundee-based consultancy specialising in environmental management. ecos has actively supported the Environmental Management programme since its launch a decade ago. Scott said, "The University showed considerable foresight in supporting the Environmental Management programme in the early 1990s, anticipating the growing demand for qualified graduates in this field. "Our company welcomes the increase in expertise arising from what was and remains the only Scottish four year professionally accredited programme in its field, which we continue to support enthusiastically."
