Mrs Edith Rice has retired from the departments of Clinical Pharmacology and Medicine at Ninewells.
Having worked for the NHS since 1965, she played an invaluable role in supporting the day to day running of
these departments.

Professor Nigel Pitts was installed as the Association's President for a period of two years.

West Park Conference Centre hosted a recent conference to launch the Quality Enhancement Themes for
2003-4, an initiative in Scottish Higher Education promoted by Universities Scotland, SHEFC, the Quality
Assurance Agency for Scotland, and student bodies in Scotland. The conference attracted more than 200
delegates representing every Higher Education Institution in Scotland. Information can be found at

celebrations
University Rector Fred MacAulay will spend Friday 12 December in Dundee for BBC Radio Scotland's 25th
anniversary celebrations. Fred will broadcast his morning show from the Marryat Hall before visiting the
University's archive department where he will take part in a challenge with members of the public to uncover
historical curiosities from 25 years ago. The Radio Scotland challenge is open to the public. Fred will also
visit the School of Life Sciences in the afternoon at the invitation of Philip Cohen and join comedians
in the evening for a recording of Just A Minute, the Radio 4 series, in the Bonar Hall.
