Colin Reid, Professor of Environmental Law, has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Law & Accountancy from 1 January 2004 to 31 July 2007. After graduating from both Oxford and Cambridge, he took up a lecturing post in Aberdeen University in 1980 before moving to Dundee at the start of 1991. He was appointed to his chair in 1995, and served as Head of the Department of Law from 1997 to 2000.
Professor Reid recently gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament on the first day of consideration of the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Bill. Appearing on behalf of the UK Environmental Law Association, he welcomed the Bill but told the committee dealing with it that the opportunity should be seized to provide a comprehensive statement of the law that is currently scattered among many different areas of legislation.
