Freshers' future
Duncan of Jordanstone has just staged its first ever freshers' activities week - "Your Future". Thought -provoking exhibitions, gigs, performances, lectures and displays were held within the exhibitions spaces around the city centre campus, aimed at giving new students an arts-orientated introduction to University life.
'Students Bazaar' comprised an eclectic range of stalls to help welcome the new students, including 'society lunches' which offered national delicacies by a different European society each day.
'Student of life' featured a series of performances and installations by recent graduates of DoJ, including Stacey Matthews and Kevin Alexander Reid, who were invited back to talk about their work and experiences to new students. Advice on brightening up student residences on a modest budget was offered by The Sunday Herald's DIY doctor, Jane Cumberlidge of the visual research centre.
The wacky 'how to' exhibition in the Lamb Gallery offered the ultimate selection of answers to life's problems. This eccentric collection of 'how to ' manuals dating from 1950s to present day, including tips for survival, hobbies and 'teach yourself' subjects, seemed to cover all eventualities.
