Medal for anaesthetist
Tony Wildsmith, Professor of anaesthesia, received the prestigious Gaston Labat Award from the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. This is awarded annually for outstanding contributions to the development, teaching and practice of regional anesthesia in the tradition of Gaston Labat - the individual who pioneered the modern approach to the use of major nerve blocks and spinal anaesthesia.
The picture shows Professor Wildsmith (left) receiving his award from Professor Alon Winnie, past President of the Society, at the Annual Meeting in Chicago on 27 April. Following the award, Professor Wildsmith gave an address on the need for the safe use of these methods of anaesthesia and paid tribute to the support he has received from colleagues in his work in this field.
