Senior members of several Scottish councils' gathered at the Gardyne Road campus to mark the successful merger of Northern College with the University of Dundee.

Social work, community education and social education council leaders met with faculty staff to discuss the new opportunities that lie ahead following last December's merger.

Dundee, Angus, Fife, Falkirk and Stirling Councils attended the reception to express their enthusiasm and support. Jim Anderson, director of education and community education at Angus Council said; "This merger creates a synergy between education and social work, while the merger of facilities gives a much greater scope for research."

Deputy principal and dean of the faculty of education and social work Professor Ron Elder said in his welcome speech; "There has been a very positive response to the merger from these outside bodies. It provides a one-door entry from them since, previously, they had been dealing separately with the two institutions."
