Do you have a vision? Can you wax eloquent about it in up to 40 poetic lines? Contact is delighted to announce the launch of the vision poetry competition 2003 with book token and champagne prizes.
The new competition aims to kindle the spirit of creativity, among those who might not previously have thought of expressing their ideas poetically as well as those already engaged in creative writing throughout the university community. The initiative is being piloted by creative writing fellow Colette Bryce, in association with John Smith's Bookshop who have generously donated the first prize of a £50 book token. Two runners up will each win a bottle of champagne. All three winning poems will be published in Contact magazine and could be part of a wider exhibition planned for graduation week.
Statesmanlike foresight and sagacity of planning, a supernatural or prophetic apparition, a person of unusual beauty, one of the five senses... however you interpret it, "vision" is a word loaded with possibilities.
"The impulse to write a novel comes from a momentary unified vision of life," wrote Angus Wilson. We don't want a novel but we would like to receive your poems - on the theme of Vision - by 31 January 2003.
Colette will be joined on the judging panel by Dr Jodi-Anne George from the department of English and Carol Pope, head of press and publications. Entry forms are available from the Tower reception, John Smith's Bookshop, the department of English or can be downloaded from www.dundee.ac.uk/pressreleases/poetrycomp.html
