This stunning picture of the Lomond Hills at dusk won Simon Powis, from the school of life sciences, 3rd prize for landscapes in the amateur photographer of the year competition run by the magazine Amateur Photographer.

The judges said: "What a glorious landscape! The combination of the film chosen, the late evening sun and a subtle 81A warm-up filter give this scene a lovely yellowy hue. We also like the way the line of trees helps to delineate the bottom edge of the photograph. A great shot."
