The institute of sport and exercise's sports science officer, Audrey Duncan, travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in October with the Scottish Golf Team participating in the Eisenhower Trophy - the world amateur golf championship. The event attracts around two hundred top amateur players from over sixty countries.
As sports scientist to the Scottish team, Audrey's role was to monitor the players' acclimatisation to the humid climate and minimise the effect of heat and humidity on their performance. A pre-competition visit with the squad in February was designed to ensure that the players were as well prepared as possible for the difficult climatic conditions.
Paul McPate, assistant director of the institute said, "Audrey's journey to the Far East and the institute's involvement with the Scottish Golf Union demonstrates the key role that the institute plays in supporting performance and excellence in Scottish sport."
