Three grants Three research grants in one month is a tall order but it is one which Murray Frame of the history department has just managed to secure. Lecturer in Russian history, Murray has just been awarded an Associateship at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's summer research lab on Slavic studies which will enable him to access the important Slavic collection which is housed there.
The second and most prestigious is a generous grant from the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC, allowing him to research in the Library of Congress during the summer.
A Leverhulme Fellowship will enable Murray to spend the next academic year working full-time on his research: "Theatre and civil society in Imperial Russia".
Murray is delighted with his triple success. He said: "The three awards together creates a fantastic opportunity to devote time and energy to my project. Theatre in Imperial Russia was politically vital as it embodied the struggle against authoritarianism. Historically, it is therefore extremely important."
Murray studied as an undergraduate at Aberdeen University before taking his PhD at St John's College Cambridge. He has been a lecturer at the University of Dundee since 1995.
