For this special exhibition, we invited Graphic Design and Illustration students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design to celebrate the centenary of D'Arcy Thompson's landmark book On Growth and Form. Over five weeks, the students created an amazing variety of books, sketches, illustrations, collages and magazine layouts, the best of which are on show in the exhibition.
Three classes were involved, each with a different brief:
- Level 2 Illustration students were asked to fill a sketchbook with drawings and notes, starting with a day of observational drawing in the D'Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum
- Level 2 Graphic Design students were asked to create a book, introducing D'Arcy himself and focusing on a particular chapter of On Growth and Form and a person or area influenced by the book
- Level 3 Graphic Design students were asked to design a magazine article about the Zoology Museum, based on text supplied by curator Matthew Jarron
