Print Festival Scotland 2015

‌Celebrate the community, culture and diversity of print-based art at Print Festival Scotland this summer. With events, exhibitions and activities from Fri 26 June - Sun 5 July 2015, it’s a great opportunity to discover the huge variety of print-making that’s going on across the country.

The University's Museum Services are arranging a number of exhibitions and events:

Specially curated for Print Festival Scotland, this new exhibition features a personal selection of prints from the University’s collection made by renowned artist and printmaker Jim Pattison.  Join us for the opening when DJCAD print tutor Mark Wallace will give a guided tour of the exhibition.

D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum
Carnelley Building, University of Dundee
Friday 26 June and 3 July, 2-4.30pm

As well as amazing animals from around the world, the Zoology Museum also features stunning works of art inspired by its founder D’Arcy Thompson, Dundee’s pioneer of Life Sciences. On show for the festival will be a folio of prints created in 2012-13 by artists at DJCAD including Calum Colvin, Elaine Shemilt, Dalziel + Scullion and Paul Harrison. Editions are available for sale.

A selection of prints from the University’s extensive collection is on permanent display in block two of the Dalhousie Building (ground floor and first floor). Among the highlights are works by Toby Paterson, Christine Borland, Ian Hamilton Finlay and Joan Miro, as well as Will Maclean’s series A Night of Islands.

An exhibition celebrating the art of DC Thomson cartoonist Jim Petrie, who died last year. Best known as the artist who drew the Beano’s Minnie the Minx for 40 years, Jim’s work embraced many other characters and styles, in print and in paint.

Visual Research Centre, DCA
1 July, 4.30-6pm

Since opening in 1999, the University’s Visual Research Centre has built up a collection of over 1000 artists’ books which make up abcD (artists’ book collection Dundee). The collection is used by many students, artists and researchers as well as being shown in exhibitions. Come along to this open afternoon to find out more – meet the curators and see highlights from the collection.
