While the camera has been used to record and document reality, it has also been used as a powerful creative tool by artists. This exhibition features portraits, collages, photo-etchings and other unusual forms of photography, all drawn from the University of Dundee Museum Collections.

Many of the pieces included in the exhibition are by former students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Some are student works, including Emma Hamilton’s Still Life with Roses in a Red Vase, which won her the Jerwood Photography Prize in 2004. Others were made after graduating, such as a striking 1986 portrait of boxer Mike Tyson by Albert Watson, who graduated from Dundee in 1962 and has since become an internationally renowned fine art and fashion photographer based in New York. Other artists whose work is featured include Susan Hiller, John Kirkwood and Ralph Rumney.

The photograph shown here is by a Duncan of Jordanstone graduate but we don't know who - if you can tell us do let us know!
