This exhibition looks at the art of portraiture in the 20th century. Although increasingly challenged by the growth of abstract art and the use of photography and digital media to 'capture' a likeness, the portrait as an art-form continued to develop. The exhibition includes works by Alberto Morrocco and John Bellany that have never been exhibited before, plus a chance to see one of our latest acquisitions, Andrew Hay's powerful Estado de Gracia.

Estado de Gracia by Andrew Hay

'Estado de Gracia (Portrait of Shuggy)' by Andrew Hay, 1998

Purchased in 2008 thanks to private donations and a grant from the National Fund for Acquisitions, administered with Government funds by National Museums Scotland
