This exhibition presents highlights from the University’s wide-ranging collection of around 2,000 drawings. It includes rarely seen work by many renowned artists including Thomas Gainsborough, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, W Q Orchardson, David Foggie, James McIntosh Patrick, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Johnstone, Joe McIntyre, David Mach, Will Maclean, Stephen Sutcliffe, Annie Cattrell and many others.

We have grouped the works into several themes:

The exhibition will be accompanied by various workshops and events – see below for details.

To help us with COVID safety, please book a place in advance of your visit on Eventbrite.

You must wear a mask while in the building, unless medically exempt. Please take care to respect others in the space and follow 1 metre social distancing guidelines. On entry you will need to provide your contact details for Test & Protect - this is a mandatory Government requirement. QR codes are provided for this and paper forms are available at Tower reception if you do not have a smartphone.

There is no need to bring proof of your Eventbrite booking with you. If you would also like to visit the exhibition in the Tower Foyer Gallery, you do not need to book separately for that.

A Greener Dundee - Drawing Workshop

Saturday 6 November, 2-4pm

Meet in the Lamb Gallery, Tower Building, University of Dundee

 

This creative workshop will be led by DJCAD alumns Morgan Atkinson aka Blake Venus. After seeing drawings and paintings of Dundee past, we’ll inspire you to draw your own idea of a greener future for the city. Your ideas will also feed into the planning of panels for the Dundee Tapestry Project, an initiative led by the Weaver Incorporation of Dundee in partnership with DJCAD and the artist Andrew Crummy (see https://www.thedundeetapestry.com )

Comics and Creature Curation – Creative Workshop

Saturday 20 November, 2-4pm

Meet in the Lamb Gallery, Tower Building, University of Dundee

 

Join us for a comics workshop imagining the lives behind the animals in the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum. Learn more about comics and create your very own comic strips inspired by the inhabitants of the museum, hosted by comics artist Cat Laird. We’ll start in the Lamb Gallery where you’ll see both comics and animals in our Drawn exhibition, before heading over to the Zoology Museum.

Drawn - a Guided Tour of the Exhibition

Saturday 4 December, 2.30pm and 3.15pm

Lamb Gallery, Tower Building, University of Dundee

 

Drawing is often seen as the fundamental basis of art, as well as being an important tool in other forms of creative thinking. The Drawn exhibition presents highlights from the University’s wide-ranging collection of around 2,000 drawings and for this special event, Curator Matthew Jarron will give an informal guided tour of the exhibition and discuss some of the works on show.
