This exhibition, created in association with D C Thomson & Co Ltd and the Scottish Centre for Comics Studies at the University of Dundee, celebrates a legendary figure in comics art. David Sutherland began working on D C Thomson comics in 1960, and has been drawing The Bash Street Kids for The Beano since 1962 - an amazing 50 years! He was also the regular artist for Biffo the Bear (1969-84) and Dennis the Menace (1970-1998). The exhibition features a unique selection of original artwork, revealing Sutherland's extraordinary abilities as a comics genius!

On Wed 13th June at 7pm, David Sutherland appeared in person the exhibition space in a wonderful evening event as part of Dundee's West Fest. In conversation with former Beano editor Euan Kerr, and with contributions from other Beano alumni, David answered questions and demonstrated his drawing technique. As a special surprise, animator Nick Park supplied a special recorded message to congratulate David on his Bash Street anniversary, and the evening ended with the presentation of a lifetime achievement award from the Scottish Centre for Comics Studies.
