To tie into the growing research interest in Comics Studies at the University we have been steadily building up a collection of original artworks by comics artists and cartoonists from the late 19th century up to today. These include also original Punch cartoons by John Tenniel and Bernard Partridge; works by the Russian cartoonist Caran d'Ache; a set of cigarette cards by Dundee artist A P F Ritchie; a large collection of sketches by the Dundee artist and war poet Joseph Lee; various pieces of original comics art from D C Thomson titles such as the Beano, the Rover, Bunty, the Sunday Post and other titles by Dudley D Watkins, Allan Morley, Jim Petrie, Gordon Bell, David Sutherland, Willie Ritchie, Gary Northfield and Elizabeth 'Bunty' Stott; various pieces of original comic art collected and donated by DC Thomson writer and editor Morris Heggie (including works by Tom Paterson, Steve Bright, Ken Reid and Barrie Appleby); and other British and American comics art by artists including Colin MacNeil, Ian Kennedy, Sydney Jordan, Steve Yeowell, Matt Brooker, Mike Collins, Carlos Ezquerra, Jim Baikie, Kate Charlesworth, Will Morris, John Byrne, Alan Davis, John Romita Jr and many more.
